Namgia Village NAMGIA – MY VILLAGE

As we  know, demographically  our country  is the  second  largest in the world and  majority  of its  people in villages. In the commit  of villages, my  tiny village  having  a population  of over  600 heads is situated  at a altitude  of 9000 feet  from MSL  in  tehsil Pooh  district  Kinnaur ( HP). It is  the last  village on the  Indo-Tibet border, merely  13kms  short  of “ SHIPKILA BOARDER” that  demarcates India and Tibet  ( Now  under  Chinese occupation) by  Macmohan  line. The snow  clad  lofty  contains of Zansar Ranges , blue  waters of fast  flowing  river Satluj  and majestic  landscapes are  the gifts of  nature that add onto the  very beauty and splendor of  my village.

The people are honest,  hardworking  and God  fearing . The follow  Buddhism  as their religions, at  the same  time Hindu  God &  Goddess like   Durga  & kali  are worshiped  with  utmost  belief. Local  deities  namely DBLA, BESARA AND KULDEV are  worshiped  and  their  blessings are  sought for their  progress , prosperity and  well-being.  Caste  system  still exists, not  as rigid  as earlier, at the  same time  not at the  verge of  extinction but it is true  that people  believe  peaceful co-existence and endeavor to build  a strong social  structure. People are politically awakened, economically sound, socially well –knit and educational faculties exit to our need.

The main occupation is farming that is Horticulture/ Agriculture, besides jobs in state/central government department and trade, particularly  border  trade with China through  Shilkila  Trade Point  since ages. Apples, Apricots, almonds , Peas  and Rajmah are the  main case crops  grown  over a land holding of more  than 1000 bighas.

Annual turn over  in terms of monetary  income of villagers  amount to apprx. 5 crores which is  much higher  than the national income  figure  per  person

It I is a developing  village  keeping proper  pace with  the developmental  activities that are planned and executed  at national level. The following infrastructure  exits:

  • Govt. Model School
  • Ayurvedic Dispensary
  • Veterinary Dispensary
  • Gram  Panchayat
  • Police  Check Post
  • Central Excise and  Custom  Check Post
  • ITBP Post
  • IB Post
